The pond at Kenwood looks wonderful from the house, but close up the little bridge is a charming feature. The water lilies are flowering and the meadow beside it includes striking foxgloves. There’s something magical about it at this time of year.

Before the concerts change the serenity, pond side at  Kenwood House offers a tranquil spot and a great place to sketch. Some in the group stayed near the House – which is still shrouded in mystery while major renovation work takes place. Others of us wandered into the surrounding grounds. It’s very familiar territory but there’s so much to see and it always seems fresh:

The weather was great – Sunday was the hottest day of the year so far. On Saturday we registered and sketched on Hampstead Heath, then delivered paintings for display on Sunday.

The-Heath

This picture won a prize from Hampstead School of Art, who had set up the scheme. Several paintings, which ‘captured the spirit of the heath’ were chosen and I was really delighted that mine was chosen as one of them. Here another painting:

Very pleased that one of my paintings was  selected for the Royal Watercolour Society’s open competition.

I was also pleased to be presented with a prize at a recent ceremony held for the first time at the House of Lords! Here’s the painting of Burgh House that won for me in the cityscape category:

I now take commissions. These are usually from  photographs and some recent requests have been for painting of buildings or places that mean something special to the the purchaser and/or their family but at a very reasonable price (under £100, unframed). Request have come from the other side of the world, from countries in Europe, or from a just a few streets away from where I live! I’ve done something a little extra by request, such as setting the painting at a particular season, or adding something personal to the image. The buyers have been very pleased – which brings a lot of satisfaction to me as well a giving a focus for my work. Here are some examples of paintings, done from photos, in and around the Highgate area:
